Another thing Gary and I make every Sunday is bread for our sandwiches.
What you will need:
1 cup warm water
1/3 cups white sugar
3/4 tablespoons active dry yeast
3/4 teaspoons salt
1/8 cup vegetable oil
3 cups bread flour
How to make (using a KitchenAid mixer):
1. Pour sugar, yeast, and warm water into the mixing bowl, and stir so the yeast and sugar dissolve. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes so it looks like a creamy foam.
2. Add salt and oil and 2 cups of bread flour. Use the dough hook and put it on the lowest setting until the flour has combined with the other ingredients and starts looking like dough. Slowly add the remaining cup of bread flour. Once the dough sticks together as one piece on the dough hook, you are done. Dont' overdo it.
3. Place a damp towl on top of the mixing bowl and let is sit for 1 hour so the dough doubles in size.
4. Knead the dough with your hands a little bit so you get the air out. Shape the dough so it looks like a loaf (I usually just fold in the sides), and place it in a buttered bread loaf pan. Put the damp cloth back on and let it rise for another 30 minutes, so when the loaf is the desired height.
5. Once you are satisfied with the rising, put it in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
**It's hard to find a good bread recipe, and what tastes good will differ depending on where you live. We tried 5 different recipes, and this one worked best for us in Columbus.
